I created the MS Excel spreadsheets below to track and calculate social media metrics for Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. This system is based on acclaimed engagement concepts of Avinash Kaushik. His work revealed to classify engagement factors, such as Likes, Shares, Comments, and Sales, in four different categories: Applause, Amplification, Conversation and Value. Based on insight from Kaushik and engagement terminology of social networks, the following provides a better understanding:
- Applause (Likes) – Facebook Likes, Twitter Likes (no longer “Favorites”), and Google +1’s
- Amplification (Shares) – Facebook Shares, Twitter Retweets, and Google+ Shares
- Conversation (Comments) – Facebook Comments, Twitter Replies, and Google+ Comments
- Value (Earnings) – Number of Sales
I added some more engagements like Mentions for Twitter and Reach for all social sites, which are included in different versions of the spreadsheets. Reach generates a good denominator to measure performance against your posts. All spreadsheets automatically calculate totals for each post across social media networks, along with weekly and month-end totals for each social site. The cells with bold figures contain the formulas. At the bottom of each sheet is an abridged version for bottom-lines (or you can hide rows on the main sheets to only show totals)
All my spreadsheets below are FREE and not copyrighted. You are welcome to download them and perform any edits or modifications. My purpose is to get you started and/or have a foundation to measure your social media engagements and data. Overall, make them yours! If you notice any needs for changes or have suggestions, please leave a comment at the bottom of this post.
